The method involves transmitting maintenance and/or repair-related data (S1) to an external computing device by a communication device of a vehicle. The data is sent to a diagnostic system (S2) from the computing device and analyzed by the system to determine (S3) maintenance and/or repair procedures. The procedures are classified (S4) into two classes. The procedures requiring a manual checking process are classified (S5-1) under one of the classes, and the procedures eliminating the checking process are classified (S5-2) under the other class. The procedures are displayed (S6) to a user. The maintenance and/or repair-related data comprises information that is selected from a group consisting of a state of coolant liquid, a state of engine oil, state of brake fluid, quality of engine oil, a wear condition of brake linings, a wear condition of igniting or glow plugs, a wear condition of windscreen wiper, a state of filter, emission-related mission data of filter, historical data of motor vehicle owner, holder and/or user of the motor vehicle. An independent claim is also included for a system for performing remote diagnostics in a vehicle.
