The method involves attaching several marks (7) at different positions on a fibrous semi-finished product (1). The fibrous semi-finished product is draped on a test specimen. The fibrous semi-finished product is measured and the measured data is evaluated. The marks and positions are selected so that direction of the fibers of the semi-finished product is determined. The direction of deformation is identified from the direction of the fibers determined.
