The sensor (18) has a measuring element (22) arranged along a shaft circumference. A measurement value evaluation unit (21) processes measurement values such that the measurement values evaluated and converted into position- and/or speed data of a shaft. A scanning head (19) i.e. sensor unit, is arranged at certain distance to the measuring element. The measuring element comprises a roller chain (23) with chain elements whose inner rollers or pins are axially aligned in axial direction of the shaft. The chain is positively attached on the circumference. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for determining and measuring rotor speed and position of a rotary shaft (2) a wind-power plant.
