The occupant protection device has an airbag, which is pressurized and unfolded with a gas when triggering. A restraining strap (4) is provided for limiting unfolding of the airbag in a direction. A venting band is provided for actuating a vent opening of the airbag. A fixing device (1) is provided with an actuating unit, by which a fixing structure of the restraining strap and a fixing structure of the venting band are controlled on the basis of control signals such that the restraining strap or venting band is released or locked.
