The failure detection device has a drive unit which controls the drive of a servomotor for driving a movable portion, a detection unit for detecting a load and a speed applied to the servomotor and a current or a position error of the servo motor. A storage unit stores the detected physical quantity. A setting unit for an error detection interval is provided, which sets a portion of a moving interval of the movable portion as error detection interval.
