Impregnating at least one surface of natural stone, preferably greywacke using a oil-based impregnating agent, comprises (a) drying (1) the natural stone for a first time period, (b) applying (2) the impregnating agent on the surface of natural stone, and removing excess amount of agent for avoiding streak formation, (c) drying (4) natural stone for a second time period, (d) applying (5) the impregnating agent for a second time on the surface of the natural stone, and removing excess amount of the agent for avoiding streak formation, and (e) drying (7) natural stone for a third time period. Independent claims are also included for: (1) use of oil-based impregnating agent for impregnating the surface of natural stone, where the natural stone is dried before and after the application of the impregnating agent; and (2) the natural stone impregnated by the above method, where the impregnated natural stone has velvety feel, and dull and streak free surface.
