The dust collection container (22) has a filter element (56) for filtering an air stream generated by the suction cleaner. The filter element is detachably connected with the container which has a discharge opening (54) from which dust is emptied when the container is released from the body of the cleaner by operating a releasing clamp (66). The filter element is removed through a bottom side (58) of the dust collection container at the opposite end to the discharge opening. Preferably the filter element is designed as a hollow body with a flow channel inside so that dust is retained on its outer surface.
