The device (1) has a conveying unit that is utilized for transporting a preform (5), and a set of heat radiating devices (3). A buffer system is provided for a preform placeholder (32) or for the preform. The preform placeholder and the preform are placed before a starting end (5Start), and an end (5End) of a production line (4). A gap is detected within the production line before passing of the preform through the heating device. The buffer system is arranged with a set of buffer memories. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling temperature of a preform.
