The method involves exchanging messages of communication device (100) with external communication devices (101-103) in an ad hoc network through shared medium. The autonomously operating procedures are executed by horizontal layers of layered model. The decision on the influence exerted on the horizontal layers by a vertical layer is made. The metric on media utilization and the metric on network user situation are collected. The parallel evaluation of the metric on the media utilization and the metric on the network subscriber situation is performed in response to the decision. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a method for controlling of the creation of messages with self-state information in communication device; (2) method for controlling of creation of foreign information messages in communication device; (3) method for controlling of dispatching messages with communication device; and (4) communication device for exchanging messages with external communication devices in ad hoc network.
