Fullerenol having 60C obtained by catalytic dehydration of glycerol, is claimed. The fullerenol is soluble in water, alcohol or other polar solvents. An independent claim is also included for producing fullerenol having 60C, comprising catalytically dehydrating glycerol, which includes (a) heating glycerol in presence of a catalyst, (b) distilling water, allyl alcohol and propenal, which are formed during synthesis, (c) carrying out dehydration until a solid phase with black color is formed, and terminating by reducing the amount of the reaction solution up to 20-25% of the initial amount of glycerol, (d) isolating fullerenol having 60C from the moistened reaction solution in the form of a sodium salt solution or ammonium salt solution by adding alkali or ammonia, (e) filtering carbon, which is not soluble (by-product of the synthesis) from the sodium salt solution or the ammonium salt solution, (f) acidifying the filtrate with sulfuric acid to achieve a pH of 6.5, (g) filtering the fullerenol having 60C, which is precipitated by acidification, washing with water, and purifying from not reacting glycerol, residues of allyl alcohol, propenal, sodium sulfate or ammonia sulfate, which are formed during acidification, and from other by-products of the synthesis, (h) drying the filtered fullerenol-60C-deposition of dark brown color at 70-90[deg] C, and (i) optionally recrystallizing from alcohol.
