The device (10) has a computer (28) determining first signal inputs in ultrasound image data sets, where the inputs are distorted in one of the sets relative to the other set in a time direction. The computer determines second signal inputs following the former inputs, where the latter inputs are displaced in the direction without distortion in one of the sets relative to the other set. The computer originatingly define third signal inputs in a transition region of the first inputs to the second inputs as of a boundary layer between a soft tissue i.e. muscle tissue, and a femur. An independent claim is also included for a method for finding signal inputs of bony structures in ultrasound image data sets.
