The method involves providing an aircharge at or below barometric pressure to an engine cylinder (14) through a lower intake passage (42). A boosted aircharge is provided to the cylinder through an upper separate intake passage (44). An intake compressor (52) is driven by an exhaust turbine to provide a boosted intake aircharge to a cylinder through an upper intake passage. The intake passages are coupled to the exhaust passages (46,48). An independent claim is included for engine system.
