The controller (500) has a control unit to control the excitation current through an excitation winding (310) such that pull-in current flows through the excitation winding. The holding current that is lower than the pull-in current is made to flow through the excitation winding after the elapse of pull-in time. The commutation current that flows through the excitation winding is fed to a commutation device (400) through the terminals. An independent claim is included for relay device.
