The device has contact protection unit that is automatically released when plug pins are introduced into plug openings. Contact protection unit and release lever unit (9) are acted upon by locking element. The locking element and spring unit are located between base portion (1) and release lever unit. The release lever unit has electrical contact portions that are mounted as separate components on release lever unit. A guide channel is connected to hook-shaped blocking unit that is brought into operative connection with locking unit.
