The two switches (11,12) are controlled in each phase using pulse width modulation by binary control signal. The duty cycles of binary control signals are varied based on reference value. The switching of one switch is delayed around dead time. The duty cycle of binary control signal of one switch is increased by addition of correction value for compensating dead time. An upper fixed value is set by adding another correction value corresponding to difference between duty cycle and base duty factor, if predetermined upper threshold value exceeds the duty cycle. An independent claim is included for an inverter.
