The optically effective layer system comprises a ground layer arrangement (GA) with a ground layer and a function layer arrangement (FA) with a function layer. The optically effective layer system is located on a substrate (S). A transparent climate protection layer is arranged over the layer system, and consists of a thermally produced oxide or nitride of a metal or a semiconductor or an alloy of it. Between the climate protection layer and the function layer arrangement, a covering layer arrangement (DA) is arranged with a covering layer. The optically effective layer system comprises a ground layer arrangement (GA) with a ground layer and a function layer arrangement (FA) with a function layer. The optically effective layer system is located on a substrate (S). A transparent climate protection layer is arranged over the layer system, and consists of a thermally produced oxide or nitride of a metal or a semiconductor or an alloy of it. Between the climate protection layer and the function layer arrangement, a covering layer arrangement (DA) is arranged with a covering layer. The climate protection layer is designed as gradient layer having a varying layer thickness over oxygen and/or nitrogen portion. An independent claim is included for a method for producing an optical effective layer system.
