The method involves creating a sequence of sample values of a signal (S1), where the sequence is assigned to a sequence of time subscripts (S1). Two subsets of time subscripts are defined (S2) for a possible location with temporally coinciding values in the signal. A correlation variable for the sample values for the time subscripts are determined (S3). The variable is compared (S5) with a threshold to detect threshold exceedance. A time index, for which the exceedance is detected, is set (S6) as beginning of temporally defined points in the signal for the coinciding signal values of a symbol. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program comprising instructions to perform a method for determining timing of a signal (2) a computer program product comprising instructions to perform a method for determining timing of a signal.
