The pressure control valve (1) is formed as a plate (5) made of elastic material, and is extended from a pressure chamber (3) of a tensioner housing of a traction tensioner. A hydraulic medium, such as oil is guided out from the pressure chamber through a discharge opening (4) of a piston (2) at overpressure in the pressure chamber. The elastic material is formed so that a portion of the discharge opening is free during the overpressure in the pressure chamber. The plate has a slot (6) in a flat undeformed state, particularly in star shape, where the slot is extended in the plate surface. An independent claim is included for a hydraulic traction tensioner with a pressure relief valve positively held between a snap ring and a collar of the receiving area of the piston.
