The method of preparing a plant substrate, comprises crushing branches of the plant substrate and providing a bulk material, where the bulk material: has a minimum dumping height of 10-50 cm; consists of crushed branches and inert aggregates; and is covered with a water-permeable layer, and a storage of the bulk material takes place under open sky and static conditions over one period of two years. The water-permeable layer is a film, a fabric, sand, bark pieces or crushed branches. The inert aggregates consist of sand, gravel, kettle ash, a plastic particle, and a plastic body. The method of preparing a plant substrate, comprises crushing branches of the plant substrate and providing a bulk material, where the bulk material: has a minimum dumping height of 10-50 cm; consists of crushed branches and inert aggregates; and is covered with a water-permeable layer, and a storage of the bulk material takes place under open sky and static conditions over one period of two years. The water-permeable layer is a film, a fabric, sand, bark pieces or crushed branches. The inert aggregates consist of sand, gravel, kettle ash, a plastic particle, and a plastic body. The branches consist of tree branches and/or stems, or branches, stems, leaves, needles and/or germinating plant seeds. Wood chips are obtained by the crushed branches, and have a length (30 cm) in its prolonged dimension and a diameter of 2-5 cm. The bulk material is arranged on a substrate and between lateral limits. Independent claims are included for: (1) a plant substrate; and (2) a method for the cultivation of plants.
