The hair iron has a heatable plate (1) for straightening hairs. Pointing transition angles (10, 12) between each pair of tangents at two adjacent points of a surface of the heatable plate is greater than 90 degrees within a transition region (6) of a side surface (2) of the heatable plate to another side surface (8) of the heatable plate. An orientation of a surface normal to the surface of the heatable plate changes at an angle of 90 degrees toward the heatable in the transition region. The heatable plate comprises glasses i.e. quartz glasses, ceramic or glass ceramic.
