The method involves aligning a machining tool such as profile cutter for processing the edge of a workpiece provided with the edge tape (2). The thickness allowance of the edge tape in Y-direction is detected. The profile cutter is adjusted based on the detection result of thickness allowance of edge tape in Y-direction vertical to the side of the workpiece not provided with the edge tape. An independent claim is included for device for processing edge of plate-like workpiece provided with coating material.
