The machine (100) has a milling spindle (103) that is guided through first portion (102a) of opening in machine table (101). A slide plate (105) is arranged in second portion (102b) of opening. Several grid structures (106) of variable lengths is arranged in the displacement direction of slide plate, so that by moving the slide plate towards spindle, the area of first portion is reduced and the surface of third portion (102c) is enlarged. The surface of first portion is increased and the area of third portion is reduced by moving the slide plate away from spindle.
