The forage harvester (10) has a cutting drum (22) that is associated with chopping blades (48). A control unit (46) detects existence of crop situation such as chopping of crop and shredding of crop. The control unit makes adjusting units to pass the counter blades in first position relative to cutting drum, if crop situation exists, so that narrow chopping gap is formed between cutting blades. The control unit makes the adjustment unit to pass the counter blades to second position far from the first position relative to the cutting drum, if crop situation does not exists.
