The method involves forming a partial model to a part of vessel- or bronchial tree (32) in a lung by a processing device (20) e.g. computer, based on a three dimensional data record. Other partial models are formed to another part of the tree spaced from the former part of the tree by the processing device. The partial models are formed by the processing device by a region growing process based on tubes. Portions of the tree are reproduced by using cylinders by the partial models. Cylinder axes of the cylinders are extended for forming a model projection. An independent claim is also included for a device for navigation support during insertion of a medical instrument.
