The axial compressor has multiple compressor stages each having a rotor stage and a stator stage. The rotor body of the last rotor stage downstream to the blades is provided with a circulating cover plate, which is formed to protect the material of the rotor body against hot compressor air. The cover plate has a sealing unit, which prevents the passing of the compressor air in a cooling channel or permits a reduced amount of compressor air to reach the cooling channel.
