System (10) for purifying surface water, comprises e.g. a shaft (12) for introducing surface water; at least one inlet (14), through which the surface water is introduced into an inlet portion (18) of the shaft; a filter element (30), which is flowed through the introduced surface water to be filtered; an outlet from the system; a bypass to conduct surface water on the filter element over an end, and is formed by a vertical separating element which divides the duct into a feed portion and an end portion; a flow regulating element; an end element; and at least one separation element. System (10) for purifying surface water, comprises a shaft (12) for introducing surface water; at least one inlet (14), through which the surface water is introduced into an inlet portion (18) of the shaft; a filter element (30), which is flowed through the introduced surface water to be filtered; an outlet from the system, arranged in a downstream portion which is arranged behind the filter element; a bypass to conduct surface water on the filter element over an end, and is formed by a vertical separating element which divides the duct into a feed portion with a feed line and an end portion with an end which is flowed through the surface water, for directing the water through the filter element to the end and which is flowed through a bypass, when surface water on the filter element is moved over the end; a flow regulating element vertically arranged in the end portion, which projects downward below the water surface in the end portion and limits the inflow face for water flowing through the bypass with respect to the water surface in the outlet portion; a separation element arranged vertically on a further vertical separation element serving as a bypass, and whose lower edge is arranged below an upper edge of the further separating element; an end element arranged in the end portion as an end, comprising at least one opening arranged in a side wall below the water surface; and at least one separation element extending horizontally over the entire width of the inlet portion arranged below and/or above the supply in the feed portion, comprising at least one through-flow opening for forming an inflow chamber separated and hydraulically decoupled from areas of the inlet portion, lying beyond the separating element.
