The circuit has LED-segments (101-103) connected in series, and including multiple semiconductor luminous elements connected in series. The luminous elements in two of the LED-segments are different. A driver controls the LED-segments, and includes electronic switches (SW1-SW3) e.g. MOSFETs, where one of the LED-segments is bridgeable based on the switches. The driver is coupled with a rectified power supply voltage by a separate voltage source. The source is formed by a voltage divider, an auxiliary voltage source, and a zener diode, and controlled based on an average value of the voltage. The rectified power supply voltage is a pulsed direct voltage.
