The method involves receiving scattered light from different directions by using three objectives (110a,111a,112a), where a Rayleigh-scattering signal and a Mie-scattering signal are simultaneously determined by a received scattered light signal. The received scattered light signal is divided into one light segment (301) for detecting the Rayleigh-scattering signal and into another light segment (302) for detecting the Mie-scattering signal. A filter (120) filters the Mie-scattering signal from former light segment. Cameras (123a,123b) are provided for determining the light segments. An independent claim is included for a measuring device for measuring state variables in a fluid flow.
