The household appliance has a controller (17) with a flat indicator (15) for displaying information and an operating state of the household appliance, where the indicator has a controllable bistable display. The indicator has display functions without operating function (18), particularly the operating elements are arranged for the operation of the household appliance with lateral distance from the display. An energy accumulator is provided in form of a capacitor for the indicator. The indicator is a clock. An independent claim is included for a display method for operating a flat display in a household appliance.
