The cajon has a box-like base body (1) with a lower side, a front side wall (3), a concealed rear side wall and lateral side walls (5, 6) turned away from each other, and a upper side (7) and a striking surface (10). The base body is provided with widening bodies (8, 9) at the lateral side walls, where the bodies widen the upper side in lateral direction. The striking surface of the base body is widened, so that the upper side of the base body horizontally lies in backlash position. The striking surface of the base body and bodies continuously forms a rectangular slab.
