Pressure-volume analysis in imaging procedures in medical ultrasound diagnostics

A pressure-volume analysis (44) is provided in imaging procedures in medical ultrasound diagnostics. The heart of a patient is scanned multiple times during a given cycle (30). B-mode and blood flow information is obtained for different times (34). The blood flow information is used to estimate the pressure over time (40). A reference pressure (38), such as arm cuff pressure, may be used to calibrate the pressure waveform. The B-mode information is used to determine (42) the heart volume over time, for example, the volume of the left ventricle over time. Heart volume over time and pressure over time are recorded (46), resulting in a pressure-volume loop. The pressure-volume loop is determined noninvasively by ultrasound (44).
