The arrangement and method for directing a flow of exhaled gas into a breathing circuit through a housing assembly (10) for removing an undesirable gas component are disclosed herein. The housing assembly includes a first port (15) and a second port (16), one of the ports receives the flow, and another delivers the flow. The assembly includes a gas diverter device (30) in fluid communication with the breathing circuit and the housing assembly. The switch device is equipped with at least two different travel options. According to a first option, the gas is first led to the first opening and through the housing assembly to the second opening and to the gas diverter for guiding for inhalation. According to a second option, the gas is supplied to the second port and through the housing assembly to the first port and to the gas diverter device for guidance for inspiration.
