A portion of the hydrocarbon trap passive adsorption element defines a boundary of the air flow manifold. The passive adsorption element has a breathable layer which is coupled to a substrate layer that is coupled to the intake manifold. The adsorption element is arranged between the substrate layer and the breathable layer.
