The method involves acquiring image streams simultaneously from two image sensors associated with optical lenses and mounted in a distal end of an inspection tube of a videoendoscope. One of the image streams is selected and displayed on a display screen having a rectangular format in a single display mode. An image of each of the image streams is obtained by simultaneous extraction of image portions (86, 87) limited to a common field between minimum and maximum viewing distances, and the image portions are simultaneously displayed on the screen in a stereo display mode. An independent claim is also included for a videoendoscope.
