The steering column has an upper part having two ends, and a lower part having two ends. A coupling unit (MC1) is fixedly secured to one end of one of the upper and lower parts. Another coupling unit is mounted in translation on one end of the other of the upper and lower parts, and arranged in a state for engagement with the former coupling unit to rotatably couple the upper and lower parts. The latter coupling unit is translated to another state by a pin, so that an anti-theft device ceases to cooperate with the former coupling unit to uncouple the upper and lower parts.
