The assembly has a mechanical connection element (23) placed between a rear window (16) and a shelf (20) that closes an upper part of a storage area behind a passenger compartment. The connection element is designed such that a position of the window is varied relative to the shelf for varying the assembly between closed boot and pick-up configurations. The shelf occupies a position to close the upper part in the closed boot configuration. The shelf and the window form a partition between the compartment and the storage area and permit opening of the upper part in the pick-up configuration. An independent claim is also included for a rear arrangement for a motor vehicle.
