The device has two guide columns (6) that are interdependent to each other, where the guide columns are interdependent to a lower part and an upper part of a stamping tool. The two guide columns are ready to engage in two guide bushes (8). The guide bushes are arranged interdependent to the lower part and the upper part of the stamping tool during closing of the tool. A centering part (10) is arranged with a truncated end (11) that engages each guide column in a corresponding guide bush during closing of the tool. An independent claim is also included for a method for closing a stamping tool.
