The system (1) has a digital camera device (2) comprising two visible-infrared array sensors (3, 4) differently viewing a same scene (10). A programmed analysis unit (5) acquires images taken by the sensors, where the images are taken synchronously and form a pair of images of the scene. The analysis unit detects the fall of a person in the scene from a time sequence of the pair of images of the scene. An infrared lighting device (7) ensures diffuse lighting in the scene. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for detecting fall of persons (2) a computer program product comprising a set of instructions for implementing a persons fall detection method.
