The method involves cutting a sheet ribbon (E2) comprising teeth that are connected with each other at bases by thin material bridges, where the thin material bridges connect the teeth at the bases on one of edges of the ribbon. The sheet ribbon is wound (E3) in spiral to form a toothed star, where the sheet ribbon is a sheet with grains directed in a direction transverse to the ribbon. The toothed star is wound (E4) and overlapped (E5) in a retaining ring, where the ring is formed by a stack of cut sheets. An independent claim is also included for a segmented stator.
