The method involves determining an illumination representative value (E1) to which a vehicle powered by part of its environment is subjected. A brightness value of a light source is determined (E2) based on the determined illumination representative value, where the brightness value is a characteristic of a contrast higher than a predetermined threshold of contrast between the light source and the environment of the vehicle. The brightness value of the light source is adjusted (E3) in order to reach a value of determined characteristic brightness. An independent claim is also included for a system for adapting a photometric parameter of an illuminating or signaling light source of a car.
