The reel has a braking unit comprising a disk rotatively connected to a chuck and jaws on two sides of the disk while being in contact with a face of the disk. The jaws are rotatively connected to a frame, where an outer surface of each jaw has a cam path. A cam is moved in rotation with respect to the frame co-axially to the chuck, and includes a contact element with the path. The cam and the path are adapted to vary gripping force of the disk by the jaws according to an angular position of the cam. A winding thickness follow-up unit is adapted to modify the position according to thickness.
