The method involves determining whether the isolation resistance is higher than a threshold resistance (2). The acquisition of infra-red images of concomitant winding is carried out with the acquisition of a value of leakage current of winding when the isolation resistance is lower than the threshold resistance (7). The number of points of infra-red images is determined, where temperature of the infra-red images is varied with the average image temperature, which is higher than a threshold temperature. A signal is emitted according to a level of criticality of the defects.
