Server system communicating with lone workers exposed to hazardous environments

A server computer system 101 is configured to communicate with a number of remote devices operated by lone workers 102 exposed to hazardous environments via a network 103, such as the internet. Each lone worker 102 has a transmitting remote device 104-106 and a remote receiving device 108-110. Location data identifying a work location 111-114 is received from a transmitting remote device 104-106. Hazard data relating to hazards 119-121 in the vicinity of the work location 111-114 is received by the server system 101 and an assessment of risk is conveyed to the remote receiving device 108-110. A transmitting remote device 104-106 may be a personal computer or laptop. The remote receiving device may be a mobile phone. The hazardous environment may be present due to a lone worker (medical or social worker) visiting a patient with a history of violence or mental problems for example. Alternatively, the location being visited may present a hazard due to a history of crime for example.
