Phototherapy device emitting light of three different colours

A phototherapy device 10 comprises: a light source (2, figure 3) such as an array of LEDs 12 each rated at 15 mW, controllable to emit light at each of first, second and third wavelengths, sequentially; an energy source (3) such as a rechargeable lithium polymer battery; and a controller (4) adapted to output a light irradiation sequence of three or more sequential colours, preferably blue (or violet), green and red. At least one delay period is present during which no radiation is emitted. The device may be mounted on an armband 19 to be worn by a user. Also disclosed is a program for controlling a radiation emitter assembly and a method of treating a patient by light irradiation to manipulate their heart rate variability.
