Checking write access to shared resources in a multithreaded processor

A multithreaded processor receives an instruction from a thread to write to a shared resource, such as a shared register. The processor checks one or more control registers to determine if the thread has write access to the resource. If so then the instruction is issued. If not, an exception may be made. There may be a control register for each thread. Flags in the control register may indicate the resources, to which the thread has write access. Alternatively, there may be a control register associated with each resource, which indicates the thread that has write access to the resource. The thread may be allowed to read from the resource if no other thread has write access. It may be able to give itself write access if no other thread has write access.
