A method, by which a transmitter and receiver synchronise, comprises: the transmitter transmitting 202 a pseudo-random seed to the receiver; determining 204 a jitter value based on the pseudo-random seed; and transmitting a synchronisation packet to the receiver at a time determined 206 by the jitter value. The receiver receives the pseudo-random seed from the transmitter; determines timing of a receive window (Figure 1) for the synchronisation packet based on the pseudo-random seed; and opens the receive window and receives the synchronisation packet accordingly. The synchronisation packet may be a Bluetooth (RTM) Low Energy (BLE) advertising packet. The method may be applied to stereoscopic television (3DTV), with the sync packet comprising information indicative of display timings of left and right eye images; the receiver may be incorporated into 3D glasses, with the sync packet controlling shutters of the 3D glasses.
