PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method and device for detecting a border portion of a cloth piece that can easily detect a border portion of a cloth piece (as a preferable target, sides or corners of rectangular cloth piece) and in that the border portion can be automatically held.;SOLUTION: A look-up image (an image viewed from the downward side) of a cloth piece A with rectangular form one portion of which is held and suspended with a first holding unit 1 is imaged by an imaging unit 10 to obtain its image.
