PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-feed determination device or a multi-feed determination method capable of determining whether multiple recording mediums are transported in an overlapping manner even if a plurality of recording mediums are transported and a value for detecting the position of each recording medium includes an error.;SOLUTION: A multi-feed determination device includes: transport means for transporting a recording medium by rotating a drive roller with the recording medium put between the drive roller and a driven roller rotating to follow up the drive roller; detection means for detecting a position of the driven roller; calculation means for calculating a thickness of the transported recording medium on the basis of the position of the driven roller at each of a time of transporting the recording medium and a non-transporting time; reference-value update means for updating a thickness reference value using the calculated thickness; and determination means for determining whether the recording medium subsequently transported is transported in a multi-feed manner using the reference value updated by the reference-value update means.
