PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for adjusting thickness of dewatered cake in a filter press and the filter press having an apparatus for adjusting thickness of the dewatered cake, capable of changing a width of a filter chamber and appropriately adjusting the thickness of the dewatered cake according to nature of water purification sludge.;SOLUTION: A filter press 1 is configured by arranging a plurality of filter plates 5... in parallel on a pair of guide rails 4, 4 bridged between a front frame 2 and a rear frame 3 and forming a filter chamber 8 between each pair of the filter plates 5, 5, and dehydrates raw water injected therein. In the filter chamber 8 formed between the filter plates 5, 5, a filter chamber adjustment plate 11 is arranged on one side thereof and stay bosses 15 are arranged on the other side thereof. Then, concentration of the raw water is measured, and when a measurement value D1 is lower than a reference concentration D0, the raw water is injected and supplied in a state of the filter chamber adjustment plate 11 being expanded and the volume of the filter chamber 8 being reduced.
