PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery in which an anion can participate, as a carrier, in an electrochemical reaction on a negative electrode side.SOLUTION: A nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery 20 of the present invention includes: a positive electrode 22; a negative electrode 23; and a nonaqueous electrolyte 27 containing a support salt and an ionic liquid, while trifluoromethane-sulfonate anions (CFSO) are contained by 4 mol% or more relative to the total amount of anions of the support salt and anions of the ionic liquid. The negative electrode 23 may be one which is capable of adsorbing and desorbing, for example, one or more of aluminum, magnesium, zinc and cerium, or may be one which has a coating electrochemically reacting with trifluoromethane-sulfonate anions and formed on a surface of the negative electrode.
